"Side Angle"

Dani Pedrosa, MotoGP

Acrylic on Canvas

29" x 55"

I did this composition after watching a recap of the 2017 MotoGP race at Austin on Youtube. The screenshot below was the starting point. I searched for a photo which would replicate the position of the rider. The nearest one that I found was of Dani Pedrosa, not Marc Marquez. That's why the composition features Pedrosa. For a change, the composition was not built around a particular rider, but rather the riding position.

In doing these MotoGP paintings it is important to have a sharp photo as a reference. In this painting I didn't stress the amount of detail because of the size of the rider in the overall composition. I also purposely left the background shaky and undefined to give the impression of movement.
