I wanted to do a painting of the split-window Corvette of 1963, so I searched online to find a photo that would be an appropriate starting point. I found this view which was exactly what I was looking for. I cropped the image of the car down to this detail, adjusted the colour and added a ficticious California black number plate. When given a commission I often have to search online to find suitable reference material if I am not able to take a photo myself, which is the preferred option.
